Build Your Own Old Fashioned at Sebastian’s Bistro

After a long day, is there really anything better than an Old Fashioned?

It’s smooth, it burns, and it’s just the thing that you want to help you relax. We’re happy to tell you that Walt Disney World isn’t all sweet martinis and premixed strawberry daiquiris, though you can get those too.

Caribbean Beach Resort is home to the newly refurbished Sebastian’s Bistro that features a Build Your Own Old Fashioned menu!

It’s amazing the variations you can make with bourbon, orange, and bitters to really make an Old Fashioned your own..

Sebastian’s Bistro

Sebastian’s Bistro features an all you care to enjoy family style meal with a Caribbean flair. We’re going to level with you: It’s a tropical Ohana. No joke! For half the price, you get almost the same menu, including that delicious pineapple bread pudding!

Sebastian’s also has quite the extensive cocktail menu with a wide assortment of rums and tequilas. Try fresh classics like mojitos and mai tais, or go for greatness with the Build Your Own Old Fashioned.

Build Your Own Old Fashioned Menu

True facts: We felt two emotions when we saw the Build Your Own Old Fashioned menu. First, we felt joy and excitement! Woo hoo! The possibilities are endless. Then we felt a bit overwhelmed… because the possibilities are endless.

RUMS

First thing first, remember we are on the islands in the Caribbean, so bourbon is in short supply. Bear with us – Instead of selecting a bourbon, you will select an island rum!

Bacardí Gran Reserva Diez 10 yr, Puerto Rico
Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 yr, Jamaica
Don Q Gran Reserva, Puerto Rico
Mount Gay XO, Barbados
Plantation XO, Barbados
Rhum Clément VSOP, Martinique

BITTERS

Next step for building your perfect Old Fashioned is choosing bitters. Choose from:

Angostura
Angostura Orange
Black Walnut
Cardamom
Chocolate
Grapefruit
Peychaud’s Pimento
Rhubarb

SYRUPS

The last step in building the perfect Old Fashioned is choosing that little touch of sweetness with a syrup. The classic Old Fashioned has just a hint of simple cane syrup, but now you can change it up. After all, you’re on vacation!

Agave
Orange Tangerine
Pure Cane Sugar
Honey Mango
Maple

Party Time

This is your sign to grab a group of friends and go out to Sebastian’s Bistro for a round of drinks. Make it fun with everyone getting a different combination and share sips! Good news: Reservations for Sebastian’s Bistro are not hard to get. You can often grab one same day if you want!

Winner, winner, Caribbean for dinner!

Over to You!

Tambu Lounge Drink Review

Picture it – You woke up early to rope drop Animal Kingdom and you take the monorail over towards the Magic Kingdom only to find that it’s still too early to park hop. Turn that frown upside down by taking that monorail over to the Polynesian Village Resort and head upstairs to the Tambu Lounge.

Let’s be honest, Ohana steals the spotlight from any other eating or drinking establishment at the Polynesian. We get it. We’re all about the bread pudding. But sometimes you just want a nice cold island drink to unwind and remind yourself that you are on vacation!

The Tambu Lounge is located on the second floor of the Polynesian and is attached to the infamous Ohana. Be sure to ask your bartender if there are any of the Ohana dishes available to purchase a la carte at the bar. We have been lucky and have been able to purchase Ohana noodles and the famous bread pudding! Mind you, neither was on the menu. The only “official” foods available at the Tambu Lounge are some pork pot stickers, a flatbread dish, pork ribs, and the California sushi roll.

Drinks

You’re here at Disney Drink Blog, so it’s time to start dishing on the drinks!

All of the cocktails served at the Tambu lounge feature some type of tropical flair. Some specialty cocktails even come with take home trinkets, like the back scratcher that comes with a literal back scratcher! We wanted to try it, but they were out of the special back scratcher garnish that day.

On this day while we were waiting for Park Hopping to open we decided to try the Piña CoLAVA and the famous Lapu Lapu.

Piña CoLAVA

First, the Piña CoLAVA was exactly what the doctor ordered on this hot and sticky Florida day. It was cold and refreshing, and sweet, but not crazy TGI Fridays daiquiri sweet. Really, it was perfectly balanced and garnished with such a delicate flower that for a minute I forgot I was in a cartoon inspired theme park.

This drink featured Bacardi raspberry rum blended with flavors of coconut, pineapple, and raspberry puree.

Normally, I am not a fan of anything with pineapple because it’s just too sweet, the rum added a nice balance. It reminded us of a fancy grown up slushie.

Lapu Lapu

Now, this one is the real kahuna. The Lapu Lapu just says, “I am on vacation and I am having a GREAT time!”. Picture a real pineapple all hollowed out and filled with the juice from the pineapple and a lot of booze. Now top it with a bunch of fruit garnish and of course, a little umbrella on top. Yes.

This drink is ridiculous, hard to hold, insane looking… and so much fun. Seriously, how can you look at a literal pineapple filled with booze and not smile. Welcome to vacation.

The Lapu Lapu is officially filled with Plantation original dark rum, tropical fruit juices, and served with a floater of Gosling’s 151 rum. Let’s be honest here, all you really taste is rum. Bring out your inner Captain Jack Sparrow with this baby, and at the end you’ll be pathetically saying, “Why is all the rum gone?”.

You can see the full drink menu here.

Atmosphere

Despite being a drink heavy lounge, the Tambu Lounge is a quiet family friendly atmosphere. You can sit at one of a couple bar top tables, at the bar itself, or on one of the comfy couches out in the foyer area.

The menu also offers fun specialty lemonades for the younger guests who would like to feel fancy, but have not yet reached drinking age.

We want to hear from you! Tell us in the comments – Are you a fan of tropical drinks?

Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Drink Review

Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar is owned and operated by Jock Lindsey, the freelance pilot hired by Indiana Jones.

He’s days of flying and high octane adventures with the famed treasure hunter are over! He set up shop in Disney Springs and shows off trinkets and treasures from some of his adventures with Indy while serving people small bites and handcrafted drinks.

Do the drinks live up to the adventurous stories, or are they basic over sweetened pre-mix cocktails like you find at your local Applebees?

We reviewed 10 of Jock Lindsey’s signature cocktails and give you our take!

Jock Lindsey’s Signature Cocktails Ranked:

1.     The Mayor’s Reserve…………….. $17.50
Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Bols Blackberry Brandy, Simple Syrup, and Lemon Juice

This drink is the perfect marriage of sweet and smooth burn. The blackberry flavor really comes out in the brandy and the smooth bourbon rounds out the drink. PRO-TIP: We stole an orange garnish from another drink and rimmed the glass and then the drink was absolute perfection.

2.     Jock’s Old Fashioned……………. $16.50
Knob Creek Disney Select Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon, Cointreau Liqueur, Simple Syrup, Angostura Bitters, and Orange Bitters with a splash of Soda Water

You can’t go into Jock’s place and not appreciate his namesake drink! Knob Creek is already one of our favorite bourbons, but knowing that Jock is using the exclusive bourbon aged for Disney. It’s solid old fashioned with a hint of bubble from the soda water.

3.     Cool-Headed Monkey…………….$15.50
Starr African Rum, Van Der Hum Tangerine Liqueur, fresh Lime Juice, Watermelon, and Pineapple Juice

Sometimes you are looking for a nice light sweet drink to make you feel like you’re on vacation. We liked that this was a sweeter cocktail, but not that sickly sweet that leaves you feeling sticky.

4.     Hovito Mojito………..……………$15.50
Barson Quebranta Pisco, fresh Lime Juice, Mint, and Simple Syrup topped with Soda Water

Mojitos are just one of those drinks that just hit when the weather is hot and sticky. Let’s call it a cool breeze in a glass.

5.     Reggie’s Revenge………………$15.50
Florida Cane ‘Orlando Orange’ Vodka, Midori Melon Liqueur, White Cranberry Juice, and fresh Lime Juice

Attention sweet drink people! Reggie’s Revenge is a sweet drink that features natural sweetness from the fruits without syrups and extra sugars.

6.     Bedtime Story………………….$15.50
Absolut Mandrin Vodka, Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur, Hibiscus Syrup, fresh Lemon Juice, and Iced Tea

We got some very sophisticated Arnold Palmer vibes on this drink. We liked the sweet meeting the tartness of the lemon for a nice balance to make way for the tea. It’s like our traditional Arnold Palmer just graduated from finishing school.

7.     Fountain of Youth………………$15.50
St. Augustine Florida Cane Vodka, Bols Blue Curaçao, White Cranberry Juice, and Sweet-and-Sour

We’ll be honest, the name alone got our attention! We have spent a lot more money in less fun ways to reclaim our youth, and this is our new favorite way. Something about a fun colored cocktail just makes you smile. Plus, did you really think you were going to get through a whole list without blue curacao?

8.     Wrong Island!………………..$14.50
Siesta Key Silver Rum, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, St. Augustine Gin, Tippler’s Orange Liqueur, and Sweet-and-Sour with a splash of Coca-Cola®

Oh, how we just love a good pun! This is Jock Lindsey’s take a on a long island iced tea. They use top shop liquors and quality ingredients, but no doubt, it’s the Coke that really brings it altogether.

9.     Shorty’s Singapore Sling…$15.50
Plymouth Gin, Heering Cherry Liqueur, Bénédictine, Cointreau, fresh Lime Juice, Pineapple Juice, and Grenadine

Have you ever tasted something that you look at and think that you shouldn’t like it, but then you just do? You can’t explain why… Yeah, that’s this drink for us. It’s sweet and has a lot of flavors going on, but they all just kind of work. And we don’t even like pineapple juice in drinks!

10.  Hail Marty………………$21.00
Colonel E.H. Taylor and Jr. Small Batch Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whisky Bottled in Bond served with an Ice Sphere

Hopefully you are able to pick yourself off of the floor after reading that price tag! Trust us – if you are a bourbon snob you have to try this. No frills. No sugar rims. No juices. No umbrellas. Just straight bourbon. With an ice sphere to keep it cold without diluting it. Sit back and sip away, my friend!

Over to You!

Finding the Best Old Fashioned at Walt Disney World

Who knew that the most magical place on earth could also be a great place for some bourbon and bourbon-based cocktails!

Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is home to almost 150 bars in the theme parks, resort hotels, and Disney Springs, and we’re here to tell you that it’s not all super sweet tropical drinks with pineapple, guava, and umbrellas (though they have a lot of those too if you’re into that).

We all know that the festivals in the World Showcase a EPCOT can create some outstanding cocktails, but we focused solely on Old Fashioneds you can get any time of the year.

We worked our way through Walt Disney World to find you the top 10 best places to get a quality Old Fashion –

10. Ale & Compass Restaurant

Maple Old Fashioned – $14.50
Old Forester Bourbon, maple syrup, orange juice, and angostura bitters

Take in the New England vibes at the Ale & Compass at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort to start our list. The maple twist on this Old Fashioned adds the perfect amount of sweetness to warm the soul, and the orange juice is a new take to replace the orange peel. Does this mean it’s not appropriate to enjoy at breakfast time, too?

9. Space 220 Restaurant

Orion Old Fashion – $17
Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Grand Marnier, Chocolate Bitters

Orion Old Fashion

Go up into space but stay grounded with a classic bourbon-based cocktail. The Grand Marnier creates a sweet element that really elevates the drink to the cosmos. We’re not sure how chocolate bitters come into play, but we’re here for it.

Bonus – Space 220 Regular Old Fashion by Bartender Chris

8. City Works Eatery & Pour House

Burnt Orange Old Fashioned – $15
Devil’s River Rye, Cointreau, charred syrup, orange bitters
You can enjoy this great classic Old Fashioned without a park ticket right in Disney Springs! City Works Eatery & Pour House is most known for their expansive beer menu, but bourbon lovers shouldn’t just walk by! This restaurant likes to feature bourbon flights intermittently through the year.

7. Nomad Lounge

Tempting Tigress – $16.50
Russell’s Reserve 10yr Bourbon, St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram, tamarind syrup, lime juice

Nomad Lounge is our place to escape at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and grab a drink. You will completely forget that you are in a theme park while you sip high-end cocktails on the veranda watching the flotillas. You can even feel good about ordering at the Nomad Lounge because they donate a portion of their profits to conservation funds.

6. Enchanted Rose Lounge

Seasonal Old Fashioned – $26
Widow Jane 10 yr straight bourbon whiskey, house-made seasonal syrup and bitters (Fall)

Seasonal Old Fashion – Fall

The Enchanted Rose is a beautiful themed lounge to Beauty and the Beast. The cocktails are some of the most refined in all of Walt Disney World, with high price tags to match. What we love about the Old Fashioneds here is that they can be different every time. We have seen classic versions with high quality ingredients, and also versions with blood orange syrups or rosemary cranberry syrups. Enjoy and opulent cocktail in an elegant atmosphere with this drink.

Seasonal Old Fashion – Winter

5. California Grill

Sonoma Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned – $18.50
Sonoma Distilling Co. Bourbon, vanilla maple syrup, angostura bitters and luxardo gourmet maraschino cherries with with an orange twist

Bourbon lovers rejoice! Don’t stop at this delicious elevated classic, be sure to enjoy the single pours of their extensive bourbon lists. Did you know that Knob Creek makes a custom bourbon just for Disney? Be sure to check it out and these other high quality bourbons:

  • Basil Hayden Kentucky Straight Bourbon

  • Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch
  • Knob Creek Disney Select Small Batch
  • Booker Noe Barrel-Strength

4. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar

2. Sebastian’s Bistro

This menu features a fun choose-your-own adventure scenario! This is an Old Fashioned with a Caribbean twist using rum instead of bourbon, and is the most customizable Old Fashioned we have ever seen. You choose your rum, syrup, and even your bitters.

Choose from 6 different Caribbean rums, 4 different syrups including agave, orange tangerine, pure cane sugar, and maple, and 9 different bitters including, angostura, angostura orange, black walnut, cardamom, chocolate, grapefruit, peychaud’s, pimento, and rhubarb.

1.   The Edison

The Edison – $17
Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Belle de Brillet Pear Brandy, Lemon Juice, Honey Cordial

When you peruse the Fashionably Old Corner of the menu you will find a tried and true Old Fashioned, but we had to check out The Edison’s signature cocktail with the same name, and the high quality ingredients just put this one on top. The Edison cocktail is like the Old Fashioned’s rich uncle – classy, strong, smooth, and rich.

Plus, after 9:00 PM you can sip and enjoy a live Burlesque show. Now, that’s how you do Disney.
