Kungaloosh Spiced Excursion Ale

“Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you, but always dress for the hunt!”

– The Adventurers Club Motto

Kungaloosh Spiced Excursion Ale is an African-inspired deep amber ale brewed exclusively for Walt Disney World, with sorghum, and a special blend of spices including cinnamon and cardamom.

The name of this special brew is a nod to the Adventurer’s Club, which was an iconic bar at Walt Disney World’s Pleasure Island. Pleasure Island was the middle section of Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs) from Pleasure Island’s opening in 1989 through the final days of the adult nigh-time area in 2008. The Edison is located in the Adventurer’s Club building.

The Adventurers Club was an evening long, immersive character experience in a fictional club for adventurers. Characters would interact with patrons and hold scheduled mini-shows in various rooms at times through the evening, culminating with the closing initiation ceremony.

Kungaloosh was the Club’s official greeting and its official beverage.

Kungaloosh was originally a mixed drink which ad two very different recipes over the years. Give them a try!

Old Kungaloosh Recipe — Circa 1997

1 1/4 ounce vodka
1 1/4 ounce Malibu Rum
3/4 ounce Midori (melon liqueur)
2 tablespoons pineapple juice
1 splash cranberry juice

Mix well.

New Kungaloosh Recipe — since 2000 or so

1 cup Daily’s Strawberry Daiquiri Mix
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum
1/4 cup blackberry brandy

Toss it in a blender with enough ice to make it slushy.

Many were vary sad to see the Adventurer’s Club go. There were large fan campaigns to keep the location open in the same or a different spot. But Disney shuttered the show.

Props have been distributed to other Disney locations worldwide.

But the memory of the Club is kept alive through this tip of the hat named beer sold only in select locations on Walt Disney World property.

I only got to visit the Adventurer’s Club two or three times before it closed. I can see why it had such a cult following. A fun evening!

  1. Thanks for letting me know this. I’m going in September and if it has Kungaloosh on it, it’s for me! I tried both recipes and I preferred the newer one with the Captain Morgan. I preferred the frozen over on the rocks with this.

I loved the Adventurer’s Club. I wandered in there shortly after it opened and I was instantly hooked. It was a great place to just lose track of time and be entertained.

I heard that there may be some places at Disney World that still serve the drink? Trader Sam’s at Disneyland does, but not Trader Sam’s at the Poly, which seems odd since it was from Disney World. But I’d love to find the actual drink if I can.

    1. Hi there,

The summer of 2017 (June 29th through July 5th) Dockside Margaritas at Disney Springs brought back the Strawberry version of the Kungaloosh as well as a couple of other old Pleasure Island favorites on Throwback Thursdays. Then it came back again on April 29th, 2019, for the Pleasure Island 30th Anniversary Party at Shipwreck Beach at the Yacht and Beach Club.

That’s all I’ve heard of officially.

But it never hurts to ask, some bartenders around property may know the recipe.
