“Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you, but always dress for the hunt!”
– The Adventurers Club Motto
Kungaloosh Spiced Excursion Ale is an African-inspired deep amber ale brewed exclusively for Walt Disney World, with sorghum, and a special blend of spices including cinnamon and cardamom.
The name of this special brew is a nod to the Adventurer’s Club, which was an iconic bar at Walt Disney World’s Pleasure Island. Pleasure Island was the middle section of Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs) from Pleasure Island’s opening in 1989 through the final days of the adult nigh-time area in 2008. The Edison is located in the Adventurer’s Club building.
The Adventurers Club was an evening long, immersive character experience in a fictional club for adventurers. Characters would interact with patrons and hold scheduled mini-shows in various rooms at times through the evening, culminating with the closing initiation ceremony.
Kungaloosh! was the Club’s official greeting and its official beverage.
Kungaloosh was originally a mixed drink which had two very different recipes over the years. Give them a try!
Old Kungaloosh Recipe — Circa 1997
1 1/4 ounce vodka
1 1/4 ounce Malibu Rum
3/4 ounce Midori (melon liqueur)
2 tablespoons pineapple juice
1 splash cranberry juice
New Kungaloosh Recipe — since 2000 or so
1 cup Daily’s Strawberry Daiquiri Mix
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum
1/4 cup blackberry brandy
Toss it in a blender with enough ice to make it slushy.
Many were very sad to see the Adventurer’s Club go. There were large fan campaigns to keep the location open in the same or a different spot. But Disney shuttered the show.
Props have been distributed to other Disney locations worldwide.
But the memory of the Club is kept alive through this tip of the hat named beer sold only in select locations on Walt Disney World property.
You can only get Kungaloosh Spiced Excursion Ale at:
- Nomad Lounge/Tiffins (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
- Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen (Magic Kingdom)
- Jock Lindey’s Hangar Bar in Disney Springs
Update 2022 – Kungaloosh is no longer available at Thirsty River Bar & Trek Snacks (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
Kungaloosh Beer Info
Kungaloosh is brewed by the Concrete Beach Brewery. It is an American Amber-Red Ale, with alcohol by volume (ABV) of 6.00%.
Kungaloosh has a spicy tang over the typical amber-red flavor. It’s good cold on a hot day.
I only got to visit the Adventurer’s Club two or three times before it closed. I can see why it had such a cult following. Always a fun evening!
Do you have memories of the Club?
What about the new Kungaloosh, have your tried it?
