Disney’s Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts

Disney’s Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts are the newest of the five WDW Value Resorts.

Originally these two resorts were planned to be the single Pop Century Resort commemorating each of the 20th century’s decades divided into two sections (the Legendary and Classic Years sections) separated by a lake in the middle.

Construction was halted part way through due to the travel industry downturn after the events of September 11th 2001. As things improved construction resumed on the Classic Years section representing the 50’s to the 90’s as this half was furthest along. THis half opened as Pop Century – The Classic Years in December 2003.

The main Building and two guest room buildings that were in the Legendary Years section sat unfinished and unused until 2010 when it was announced that the Art of Animation Resort would be built  on that spot.

The two original guest buildings plus a newer third make up the Little Mermaid section and have traditional Disney Value rooms with external entrances. While all of the newer buildings have family suites, interior halls and higher prices.

Amenities include: food courts, limited pizza delivery, an arcade, playground, heated pools, pool bar, luggage service, in room safe, iron and board, and coffee makers (only in suites). These resorts all have exterior hallway room entry doors.

The only bars at these resorts are the Pool Bars with limited outdoor seating around the external bar and some umbrella chairs shared with the food court.

The Value Resorts are each decorated in a big way based on the theme they represent, with large exterior icons decorating the buildings, themed pools, and bright color schemes throughout.

These resorts are very large, from 1984 rooms at Art of Animation to 2880 at Pop. Due to the lower price and themes younger families, mostly frequent them. They can at times be hectic and noisy in general, especially the food courts in the morning!

Transportation

The only transportation currently available at these Resorts are the Disney Buses. The each has a single bus stop located near the lobby.

In the Fall of 2019 the Disney Skyliner is due to open, providing gondola service to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios from the middle of the lake station on the bridge between Art and Pop.
