Disney Vacation Club Resorts

The Disney vacation Club is Disney’s timeshare program. DVC locations are either co-located with some of the Deluxe resorts and share amenities, or in a couple instances are totally separate resorts.

DVC properties offer studio, one-bedroom, and 2 bedroom condo type rooms with kitchen facilities. These resorts are more expensive than the Deluxes but could be an option for big parties. You may pay by the night just as you would for any other WDW resort, or rent points to use for your stay from a DVC owner through a third party.

Resort Areas

Walt Disney World also divides its resorts into groupings called Resort Areas. This is to give you the guest a quick sense of what the resort is near. There are five resort areas, they are The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and the Disney Springs Resort Areas.

The Magic Kingdom Area has four Deluxe Resorts and a campground with campsites and Moderate level Cabins. They are the Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Polynesian Village Resort, Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

As you would imagine the Magic Kingdom Resorts are closest to the Magic Kingdom. The two original resorts (Contemporary and Polynesian) as well as the newer Grand Floridian are “Monorail Resorts.” They are located on the Magic Kingdom monorail line that makes the transit to the park a snap. They are also some of the most expensive rooms on property because of this. All Magic Kingdom Resorts have boat service to the Magic Kingdom as well and bus service property wide. The Contemporary is close enough to walk to the Magic Kingdom!

Note Shades of Green, the U.S. Military only, Department of Defense owned and operated resort on WDW property is also a Magic Kingdom Area Resort.

The Epcot Area has three Deluxe Resorts and one Moderate. They are the Yacht Club, Beach Club, BoardWalk Inn, and the Caribbean Beach Resort. The first three, all Deluxes are located adjacent to Epcot and offer boat service to the Epcot International Gateway and Disney Hollywood Studios entrances. You can also easily walk to Epcot, while the Studios is a bit longer walk. The Caribbean, the Moderate is located across a major street from Epcot and only has bus service to all WDW destinations.

The New DVC Riviera Resort will be an Epcot Area Resort.

Note the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts, which are non-Disney owned resorts are also Epcot Area Resorts.

The Animal Kingdom Area has one Deluxe, one Moderate, and three Value Resorts. They are in order the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Coronado Springs, and the three All-Star Resorts (Movies, Music, and Sports). The only transportation method available for all of these resorts is the WDW bus system.

The ESPN Wide World of Sports Area has two Value Resorts. They are the Pop Century and the Art of Animation Resorts. These two Values are the newest of all Disney’s Resorts, Animation being the newest. The only transportation method available for these resorts is the WDW bus system.

Disney Springs Resort Area has two Moderate Resorts. They are the Port Orleans – Riverside and the Port Orleans – French Quarter. These resorts have boat service between each other and Disney Springs as well as bus service to all WDW destinations. There are also two DVS Resorts in the Disney Springs area: Old Key West and Saratoga Springs.

Besides these Disney Resorts there are seven non-Disney resorts in this area: Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando – Lake Buena Vista, B Resort & Spa, Wyndham Lake Buena Vista, Best Western Lake Buena Vista Resort Hotel, Buena Vista Palace Resort & Spa, and the Holiday Inn – Orlando Lake Buena Vista.
