Build Your Own Old Fashioned at Sebastian’s Bistro

After a long day, is there really anything better than an Old Fashioned?

It’s smooth, it burns, and it’s just the thing that you want to help you relax. We’re happy to tell you that Walt Disney World isn’t all sweet martinis and premixed strawberry daiquiris, though you can get those too.

Caribbean Beach Resort is home to the newly refurbished Sebastian’s Bistro that features a Build Your Own Old Fashioned menu!

It’s amazing the variations you can make with bourbon, orange, and bitters to really make an Old Fashioned your own..

Sebastian’s Bistro

Sebastian’s Bistro features an all you care to enjoy family style meal with a Caribbean flair. We’re going to level with you: It’s a tropical Ohana. No joke! For half the price, you get almost the same menu, including that delicious pineapple bread pudding!

Sebastian’s also has quite the extensive cocktail menu with a wide assortment of rums and tequilas. Try fresh classics like mojitos and mai tais, or go for greatness with the Build Your Own Old Fashioned.

Build Your Own Old Fashioned Menu

True facts: We felt two emotions when we saw the Build Your Own Old Fashioned menu. First, we felt joy and excitement! Woo hoo! The possibilities are endless. Then we felt a bit overwhelmed… because the possibilities are endless.

RUMS

First thing first, remember we are on the islands in the Caribbean, so bourbon is in short supply. Bear with us – Instead of selecting a bourbon, you will select an island rum!

Bacardí Gran Reserva Diez 10 yr, Puerto Rico
Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 yr, Jamaica
Don Q Gran Reserva, Puerto Rico
Mount Gay XO, Barbados
Plantation XO, Barbados
Rhum Clément VSOP, Martinique

BITTERS

Next step for building your perfect Old Fashioned is choosing bitters. Choose from:

Angostura
Angostura Orange
Black Walnut
Cardamom
Chocolate
Grapefruit
Peychaud’s Pimento
Rhubarb

SYRUPS

The last step in building the perfect Old Fashioned is choosing that little touch of sweetness with a syrup. The classic Old Fashioned has just a hint of simple cane syrup, but now you can change it up. After all, you’re on vacation!

Agave
Orange Tangerine
Pure Cane Sugar
Honey Mango
Maple

Party Time

This is your sign to grab a group of friends and go out to Sebastian’s Bistro for a round of drinks. Make it fun with everyone getting a different combination and share sips! Good news: Reservations for Sebastian’s Bistro are not hard to get. You can often grab one same day if you want!

Winner, winner, Caribbean for dinner!

Over to You!

Tambu Lounge Drink Review

Picture it – You woke up early to rope drop Animal Kingdom and you take the monorail over towards the Magic Kingdom only to find that it’s still too early to park hop. Turn that frown upside down by taking that monorail over to the Polynesian Village Resort and head upstairs to the Tambu Lounge.

Let’s be honest, Ohana steals the spotlight from any other eating or drinking establishment at the Polynesian. We get it. We’re all about the bread pudding. But sometimes you just want a nice cold island drink to unwind and remind yourself that you are on vacation!

The Tambu Lounge is located on the second floor of the Polynesian and is attached to the infamous Ohana. Be sure to ask your bartender if there are any of the Ohana dishes available to purchase a la carte at the bar. We have been lucky and have been able to purchase Ohana noodles and the famous bread pudding! Mind you, neither was on the menu. The only “official” foods available at the Tambu Lounge are some pork pot stickers, a flatbread dish, pork ribs, and the California sushi roll.

Drinks

You’re here at Disney Drink Blog, so it’s time to start dishing on the drinks!

All of the cocktails served at the Tambu lounge feature some type of tropical flair. Some specialty cocktails even come with take home trinkets, like the back scratcher that comes with a literal back scratcher! We wanted to try it, but they were out of the special back scratcher garnish that day.

On this day while we were waiting for Park Hopping to open we decided to try the Piña CoLAVA and the famous Lapu Lapu.

Piña CoLAVA

First, the Piña CoLAVA was exactly what the doctor ordered on this hot and sticky Florida day. It was cold and refreshing, and sweet, but not crazy TGI Fridays daiquiri sweet. Really, it was perfectly balanced and garnished with such a delicate flower that for a minute I forgot I was in a cartoon inspired theme park.

This drink featured Bacardi raspberry rum blended with flavors of coconut, pineapple, and raspberry puree.

Normally, I am not a fan of anything with pineapple because it’s just too sweet, the rum added a nice balance. It reminded us of a fancy grown up slushie.

Lapu Lapu

Now, this one is the real kahuna. The Lapu Lapu just says, “I am on vacation and I am having a GREAT time!”. Picture a real pineapple all hollowed out and filled with the juice from the pineapple and a lot of booze. Now top it with a bunch of fruit garnish and of course, a little umbrella on top. Yes.

This drink is ridiculous, hard to hold, insane looking… and so much fun. Seriously, how can you look at a literal pineapple filled with booze and not smile. Welcome to vacation.

The Lapu Lapu is officially filled with Plantation original dark rum, tropical fruit juices, and served with a floater of Gosling’s 151 rum. Let’s be honest here, all you really taste is rum. Bring out your inner Captain Jack Sparrow with this baby, and at the end you’ll be pathetically saying, “Why is all the rum gone?”.

You can see the full drink menu here.

Atmosphere

Despite being a drink heavy lounge, the Tambu Lounge is a quiet family friendly atmosphere. You can sit at one of a couple bar top tables, at the bar itself, or on one of the comfy couches out in the foyer area.

The menu also offers fun specialty lemonades for the younger guests who would like to feel fancy, but have not yet reached drinking age.

We want to hear from you! Tell us in the comments – Are you a fan of tropical drinks?
